Water
Management

In a world where every drop of water counts, we believe that responsible management is the key to sustainable growth. We reduce consumption, monitor wastewater, and implement smart solutions to business water challenges. Because effective water management is not just a necessity — it is our responsibility to nature, people, and the future.

Measures and Innovations

The water we use in production is needed primarily for cleaning and maintaining the halls in which we raise the animals. In the last 12 years, we have introduced the use of numerous innovative technologies for water management, thanks to which we have managed to reduce the consumption of water for washing by over 50%:

  • We use efficient drinking systems that reduce water spillage to a minimum - cup and nipple drinkers;
  • We have high-pressure foam production facilities that use minimal amounts of water for washing trucks, respectively maintaining a high level of biosecurity;
  • The washing of the premises after the animals are removed is done with jets instead of hoses, which has reduced water use by about 60%;
  • We are gradually replacing the animal watering nozzles with those that have a water collector, which reduces water waste by about 30%;
  • Our pig farm in Lovech has a local wastewater treatment plant;
  • We have introduced a system for water quality monitoring.

Own Water Sources

All of our pig farms have their own water sources for groundwater abstraction with the relevant permits issued. To prevent possible contamination of groundwater bodies, the following measures have been taken:

  • The construction of all water sources includes cementing of the exploitation columns in the surface layers, as well as in the intervals between shallow and deep groundwater bodies. This prevents the entry of surface water into the groundwater body and/or mixing of water from different groundwater bodies;
  • All water sources are equipped with reinforced concrete shafts and buildings, providing protection for facilities and equipment;
  • Monitoring programs are implemented - annual water sampling and testing by accredited laboratories in order to monitor indicators of the chemical state of water bodies;
  • Performing constant quantitative monitoring of water bodies;
  • Sanitary protection zones have been established around a large part of the water sources;
  • Additional programs are implemented for monitoring drinking water.
